Mount Trikora (formerly: Mount Wilhelmina) is located in the eastern region of Jayawijaya Mountains in Papua Province/Indonesia. Mount Trikora belongs to the SEVEN SECOND SUMMITS of our earth, and therefore is of international importance in the community of mountaineers. On the other hand CARSTENSZ PYRAMID (4884 Meter) belongs to the classical SEVEN SUMMITS, located only about 100 km beeline in western direction. As well geomorphical as optical, CARSTENSZ PYRAMID can be considered as the big brother of Mount Trikora.
Until today, Dr. Weiglein has operated 8 expeditions to Trikora massif successfully. With the following program we enable all interested mountaineers from minimum 2 participants in the future to operate a TRIKORA expedition at any date on request.

Planned itinerary:

Day 1 Arrival in Wamena, transfer to THE BALIEM VALLEY RESORT. Overnight incl. fullboard.
Day 2 Drive to the southern side of Lake Habema by off-road vehicle, together with guide, cook and porters. Depending on weather and road conditions, we must schedule the whole day for this ride. Shortly after leaving the vehicle, tentcamp at typical highmoor landscape.
Day 3 About 6 hours trekking until we reach our intended campground. In the morning we first cross Wamena River and then pass wide open grassland with many picturesque tree farns. Short lunchbreak. We reach our camp for the night in the early afternoon.

Trekking

SOMALAK cave
Day 4 Today we need about 3-4 more hours before we reach the famous SOMALAK cave. This spacious cave provides enough room for our whole crew to sleep and cook as well as shelter from the rain. In 1905 the cave was used for the first time as day for several weeks during the Lorentz expedition. Since then it became an important point for all Trikora expeditions.
Day 5 Ascent to the high day, located directly at the foot of the Trikora main massif. This leg will take 2-3 hours. Depending on weather conditions, we might have time to climb the nearby TRIKORA MINOR after raising our camp. At a good sight one has an unforgettable view over wide parts of the central highlands as well as the Baliem Valley in the distance. Our porters and cook raise their camp in a little woodland, directly underneath the last ascent to the highcamp.
Day 6 Before dawn we start the ascent of MOUNT TRIKORA. The way to and over the ridge is quite easy but far. But the ascent of the highest rocky promontory is difficult and only feasible with professional equipment. Later descent to the camp of our crew directly underneath our highcamp, because only there wood for cooking is available.
Day 7

Descent and trekking back to our meeting point at the road near Lake Habema. Today nightcamp in the forest right before reach of the open highlands grassland.

Day 8 Only 1-2 hours trekking to our pick-up point at the road near Lake Habema. Around noon we expect our pick-up service. Drive to the THE BALIEM VALLEY RESORT passing Wamena. Overnight incl. fullboard.
Day 9 Breakfast at the resort. End of our tour.
